Corpus Christi was celebrated in Soller on Sunday 11th June 2023

Corpus Christi is an important event in the Spanish calendar, celebrating the ‘Body of Christ’. Go anywhere in Spain and you’ll see it is celebrated in an entirely different way.

The pictures in this article were all taken by Madeline Harding in Soller.  Flowers are how we celebrate, and the picture depicted each year is significant,

Corpus Christi occurs nine weeks after Easter and is a religious celebration. Corpus Christi changes each year depending on when Easter falls. It is celebrated eight to nine weeks after Easter on the Thursday following Holy Trinity Sunday. It is celebrated by the Roman Catholics, the Church of England and some other Anglican churches. Essentially it celebrates the Eucharist and the presence of the body of Christ in holy water. Corpus Christi changes each year depending on when Easter falls. It is celebrated eight to nine weeks after Easter on the Thursday following Holy Trinity Sunday.

In Soller there is a significant procession and the design and display of the flower and plant mural.
