Dry stone route
The GR 221 is a long-distance route that enables one to discover the landscapes constructed in dry stone in the Serra de Tramuntana, visit historical remains, learn about myths, legends and traditions and find out about the local architecture, gastronomy and crafts.
The route is currently comprised of 167 km which are open to the public and signposted, 85 km of which correspond to the main itinerary and 82 km to the variants.
Four full stages are open to hikers, linking Deià to Pollença, and the section between Banyalbufar and Esporles is open. When it is completed, the GR 221 will consist of 271 passable kilometres, distributed amongst 8 stages of the main route and 9 variants.
At the end of each stage hikers will find a shelter belonging to the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council) network where they can stay the night.
