Yesterday I sat at the counter of a favourite Palma Deli. Four o clock, with a cup of coffee contemplating, what, if anything, I was likely to buy. To start with I was the only one there but soon a table or two filled up and a few joined the counter space with me. Amongst them a man who ordered plates of smoked salmon, Manchego cheese, fishy tapas and bread. The drink of choice was the finest champagne. His feast was spread before him, and the staff seemed to know him.
One glass of champagne developed into two as he appreciated his lunch, afternoon snack, special treat or daily fare? I will never know why he was sitting alone on a Thursday afternoon with the finest of everything spread out before him.
I am in contemplative mood this week after the death of a dear friend. Observing the life choices of others I was struck with the thought (not unique) that life is for living, eating, laughing, spending time with family and friends. This should be done wholeheartedly without any self-meanness. If you feel like a glass of champagne or buying the most unsuitable shoes – just do it. We hold ourselves back often from really going for it, in some belief that there will be time later for all that.
Sadly, that is often not true…
Seize the day friends, enjoy the bubbles …
