Still has a home in Mallorca; his heart is still here…
“Success at last with the birds!”
As I grow older, I grow wealthier:
silver in my hair,
two new titanium knee replacements,
sugar in my blood,
gold in my teeth,
precious stones in my kidneys,
free eye tests on the NHS,
a bus pass,
six grandchildren
and I only have to hear what I want to hear!
As a former Anglican Chaplain on Mallorca, I am certainly “the ghost of Christmas past”. But at 76 years old the Church of England still finds me plenty to do as a retired priest, to keep me out of trouble. There’s obviously no such thing as retirement for me as far as the dear old C of E is concerned. This year I have done two locum duties in Portugal. I’m booked for services every Sunday until Christmas, and when local clergy and funeral directors get busy, they call in the “old boys” like me to fill in. Then I’m off to do locum duty in the church at Nerja on mainland Spain from January until February…so I shall be quite busy…. if “I’m spared!”
However, I still find time to breed and show exhibition budgerigars. At the last count I have about 80 which costs me a bomb in seed money but does stop me getting under my wife’s feet with all the cleaning, feeding, breeding and showing. I’m a member of the National Budgerigar Society and also belong to a local club, the Trent Valley Budgerigar Society….where I have even been known to win a few prizes. So, at the moment we’re still alive and kicking.
Definitely successful with the birds…
