Bellver International College – non-denominational, co-educational day school in Palma
Founded in 1950, Bellver is the longest established privately owned British school in Spain. The college is situated close to the beach (opposite to the King of Spain’s summer palace) in a residential area 3 km from the centre of Palma in Mallorca. Bellver adopts a combined pragmatic and academic philosophy which encourages every pupil, throughout the ability range, to participate in a wide spectrum of academic studies, varied learning experiences and individual programme of achievement.
At Bellver International College, English is the language of instruction. All pupils become bilingual in English and Spanish. French, German and Catalan are also offered. The school is an official examination centre for both Cambridge & Edexcel examination boards. British style tuition prepares pupils for public examinations: I.G.C.S.E., A/AS level. Spanish teachers provide the requirements for Spain’s Ministry of Education. Bellverians can thus apply by direct access to any university or other establishment of further education worldwide. Examination results have been excellent at all levels with 99% of our 6th Form leavers going to University.
The key to Bellver’s longevity and success is to do with the ethos that the school has developed under the leadership and direction of its owners. Stephanie Muirhead leads the school today having been well informed and guided by her husband Mark Muirhead who was the owner of the school for many years and was a pupil before that. After the death of Mark Muirhead the direction of the school was very clear – continue in the traditions that made this such a dynamic place of learning with a family heart.
The Headmaster – Vincent Déperrois is a teacher, a linguist and a leader. Under his Headship Bellver has settled into the next phase of its history and is making a significant mark on the choices of school the people of Mallorca are making for their children. Bellver is proud of its teachers and knows that every child leaves school with a memory of the teacher that made most impact on their lives. Bellver has a core of teachers who have been with the school for many years and those who are new to the Island.
Bellver welcomes enquiries and applications from new pupils and looks forward to answering your questions and showing you round our school. Bellver exists to educate young people from the age of 3 to 18 years and it is our pleasure to watch your children grow in body, mind and spirit.
