‘The Assumption of the Mother of God’ is celebrated in Spainand is a very important religious day and a state Bank Holiday.
Saturday August 15th 2015 is a BANK HOLIDAY.  This means that all banks and offices will be closed and only a limited number of shops will be open.
The ‘Day of Assumption’ commemorates when Mary went bodily to heaven.  The wonderful sculptures and floats in the larger churches will have a sleeping Mary surrounded by Angels waiting for her transportation to heaven.

San Bartholomew Church in Soller has a tableau of The Assumption and is open to visitors from 10th to 17thAugust 2015.  Monday to Thursday from 11 am to 6.30 pm
Friday 11 to 2 pm, Saturday 11 to 3 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 1 pm.
Many churches in Mallorca have wonderful displays and the larger ones in Palmaare particularly outstanding.  The Cathedral display is considered among the finest works of art.  Assumption is celebrated in music, art, church services and much more at this time.
