A PIRATE ANGEL IN THE CAR PARK OF SOLLER

A PIRATE ANGEL IN THE CAR PARK

By Shirley Roberts

A great night at the Mallorca Dream Homes party and then it was almost midnight and time to go home. Drove home (no alcohol had passed my lips) and parked in the car park near our house in the centre of Soller. By some idiot sleight of hand my house keys fell down the side of the car seat and were lodged. I moved the seat and manipulated it as best I could but I could not get at the keys. I gave up and phoned home to wake my long suffering husband to get him to open the front door. The phone rang and rang and it was obvious that the phone wasn’t ringing in Trev’s ear and he was firmly in the land of nod. Gave that one up after about ten attempts and then had another go at re arranging the furniture in the car to get at the keys. No way in the world could I get at those keys.

Considering all options, cursing myself for being so stupid and deciding who else to wake up to get help was my next step. Then a little voice in the car park asked me about the parking rules and whether he could park there for free. A young man, new to the area needed the information and I was happy to oblige. ‘Do you think you could help me?’ Was my question. My ‘angel of the car park’ got in the car, rearranged the seat, pulled and pushed and rescued my lost keys. Just when I thought all was lost he just turned up – was that coincidence, the universe, God, fate or luck?

I don’t know the answer to that one but I know that this young man who has recently come from Malaga to live in Soller was sent to me in my need last night. He is working in Pirates in the Port of Soller as a waiter and he is new to this area. He might be a pirate in his day job but last night he was a very special angel to me.

Thank you Mr Pirate from Malaga – I am very grateful …
