The Port of Soller in the Autumn of 2024

By Soller Shirley

A perfect horseshoe bay with lighthouses on both sides as it turns seawards.

Each beach area has its own local name and its own fans.  Some will never go anywhere but the Repic Beach, others love the sands outside the Esplendido, others the Es Traves beach in front of the Fergus.

The ramblas from the bus stop, Carrer d’Antoni Montis is a straight walk down to the sea.  On Thursday mornings you pass the local market on that route. This walk takes you past the entrance to the Es Port Hotel.

The cobbled street of Carrer de Jaume Torrens is the main shopping street of the Port.   In November 2024 this area will be under construction work for a couple of months.  All the ugly electricity hanging cables are being taken underground.  This will necessitate a new cobbled floor to be laid.

Nine hotels in the Port of Soller are ‘first line’ and on the bay.  Starting from the Repic end they are

Salina Port hotel

Pure Salt

Hotel Los Geranios

Hotel Minster

Hotel Marina

Esplendido

Eden Hotel

Fergus Hotel

Miramar

Hotels occupying the cliff top and central streets of the Port are

Jumeriah

Bikini Island

Eden Nord

Soller Garden,

Aimia

Es Port.

The tram disgorges hundreds of people, every day, in the season.  Many go on to take the tourist trips on the boats to Sa Colobra.  Others arrive for their day on the beach or to shop and eat in the great restaurants

The Port of Soller has its own identity.  A small fishing fleet brings the catch in every day.  A thriving local school community exists at the Pere Cerde School.  The Church of Sant Ramon de Penyafort holds services every week.

Local people live, work and have their lives in this beautiful place.
