New readers will have worked out by now how important the local events of January are to Sollerics. Christmas, New Year and the Three Kings give way to Sant Antoni, fire and demons. After that, it has to be said, the local elections are very high of the list of important events.
This is the time every year when the Valentes Dones and the Historical characters for the Firo are elected. The rules are available for all to see. Those eligible for election have to be born Solleric or have lived here for over 10 years. There is never a shortage of willing candidates, so a true election has to take place.
The Nominations are being taken now at Can Dulce and Son Joves. The nomination period is from 8th to 19th January 2024. The Presentation of all the Candidates take place on 22nd January 2024. The Election happens on 27th January 2024. Votes can be cast from 5 pm to 9 pm. Those elected are announced after 9 pm. This all takes place at the Victoria Cultural Centre and ends in a great party.
Firo is not just an event in the Calendar for local people, it is far more significant than that. These elections are so very important in the life of the people of the Soller Valley and are worthy of the respect the community gives them.
