Then I will begin and tell you the story of ‘A day in the Life of a Mallorca wedding celebrant’.
Friday 23rd September was the glorious wedding day of the fabulous S & A getting married in the Finca Son Pont in Puigpunyent.
The location was specially chosen to have the ceremony on the roof terrace surrounded by the most exquisite mountain and forest scenery. A truly special place that only needed the weather to make it beyond perfection.
As this Celebrant set off from Soller it was cloudy but through the tunnel the rain poured, lightening struck repeatedly and thunder was the soundtrack. Undeterred I took the easiest route via the motorway and turned off at the Puigpunyent slipway. Just by Son Moix stadium the road had submerged and was flooded. Cars were floating in the lake that was once a road and I got there just as this happened, before the police and all services arrived. Another route to Puigpunyent was now a huge priority.
The motorway was blocked, all exit roads that could have helped were at a standstill and I had a couple waiting for a Wedding in 35 minutes…
Retraced my route via Esporles off the motorway and began the mountain journey via the Sa Granja estate. Ten kilometres of climb, mountains and horrors of meeting an oncoming car on a one track road.
Puigpunyent was finally there in the distance and the road to Son Pont was soon found. A signpost and I was just about going to make it on time. Car stopped, indicated to turn right, waited for the finish of oncoming traffic and then BANG a car behind crashed into me…
Ten minutes of exchanging details, mopping up and comforting an old lady who was in the other car. Meanwhile my bride was waiting and the rain had stopped.
The ceremony took place exactly as was planned with the sun making an appearance. Fifteen minutes late it has to be said but in the circumstances no one cared.
A wedding celebrant’s life is a very happy one but some days the effort is just spectacular…
